Our client is Australia’s leading supplier of trailing equipment to the Australian transport industry. Their product range includes some large, heavy and bulky non-standard items that when unitised can weigh over 2 tonnes. The business understood their primary duty obligations and wanted to partner with subject matter experts who could help them achieve their goal of best practice risk mitigation and compliance. CoR Comply devised a program to achieve this outcome.
We began with a comprehensive, end-to-end review of the client’s transport activities. We mapped their inbound and outbound goods processes and identified interaction with heavy vehicles and other parties in the chain. The packing and preparing of non-standard loads was a critical risk control, so we consulted with packaging suppliers and engaged logistics engineering specialists for advice on methods and materials for unitising, packing and securing outbound goods.
This project delivered practical improvements that enhanced both safety and compliance by eliminating or minimising public risk and improving safety for other parties.
The key outcomes were:
- Upgrading packing equipment and methods and formalising these through procedures and training.
- Reconfiguring internal workflows to retain responsibility for transport bookings in the warehouse who prepared the load and generated the consignment details for the transport documentation and communication with transport providers.
- Establishing communication protocols to inform customers of specific load details and loading requirements in preparation to pick up orders.
- Practical, hands-on training sessions for warehouse and logistics staff, focusing on correct loading and load restraint techniques to boost internal capability and compliance. The course theory was adapted to an online presentation that is included in the induction and training of all warehouse employees.
- The non-conformance reporting system already in place to notify the manufacturing site of any damaged loads and load shift issues with inbound shipping containers was amended to include a review of the actions to be implemented during the loading process and close out of the issue when approved and implemented.
- The program outcomes were captured in procedures, establishing a consistent standard and demonstrating compliance.
