Overview

Heavy Vehicle Drivers and the Law is one of three courses in the Driver Safety & CoR Awareness series.

Together, the courses explain the Chain of Responsibility and laws that apply to drivers, how drivers can work safely on the road, and the importance of safe vehicles and safe loads.

This course focuses on the legal responsibilities of heavy vehicle drivers and how the law is enforced.

• The Chain of Responsibility and how it applies to drivers
• The legal responsibilities of heavy vehicle drivers under the Heavy Vehicle National Law and road safety laws
• Common offences that apply to drivers
• How the Heavy Vehicle National Law is enforced
• Infringement notices, demerit points and court-imposed penalties

You will have a clearer understanding of:

• Where drivers fit within the Chain of Responsibility
• The responsibilities that apply directly to heavy vehicle drivers
• The difference between Heavy Vehicle National Law offences and road safety law offences
• How breaches are enforced and the consequences drivers may face
