Critical Concepts under the Heavy Vehicle National Law

Overview

This training is for people who want to improve their knowledge and understanding of the chain of responsibility for heavy vehicles and duties owed by parties in the chain and executives.  It’s been designed for businesses that use but don’t operate heavy vehicles for road transport. The course covers these 5 topics using interactive learning, case studies and real court outcomes to bring the material to life.

Heavy vehicles and the law – The scope, how safety is defined, prescriptive requirements for on-road heavy vehicle operations

Chain of responsibility – Defines the chain of responsibility and explains the primary duty 

Transport activities risk control – Uses practical examples to demonstrate how parties can control risk and demystifies the shared responsibility 

Executive duty and due diligence – The role of information and data in due diligence and using the right sources

The role of regulators –  How the law is applied when something goes wrong

Learning objectives:

• Explain the scope of the HVNL, the chain of responsibility and the primary duty.
• Map your transport activities and interaction with other businesses and apply the principle of shared responsibility.
•  Develop and implement risk controls that eliminate or minimise public risk.
• Evaluate information and data sources to measure and monitor the effectiveness of safety and compliance arrangements.
• Apply the critical concepts to demonstrate knowledge of the HVNL.
